Wofford College
Project Background
Wofford College, located in Spartanburg, South Carolina, required mechanical upgrades and renovations to four residence halls, as well as desired to reduce operating expenses campus-wide.
EcoMetrix has been contracted by Wofford College for sustainability consulting and project management services related to the residence halls and other campus facilities.
As in all our projects, EcoMetrix is focusing our efforts on reducing operating expenses, and in this case is leveraging savings achieved through a performance contract process, enabling Wofford to make desired improvements while improving their carbon footprint.
EcoMetrix's Role:
The following outlines the program developed by EcoMetrix for Wofford College:
- Challenge – Reduce operating expenses campus-wide, solve humidity and indoor air quality issues in four residence halls, develop plan for replacement of major mechanical systems, make strides toward University Presidents' Climate Commitment
- Process – Embarked on a competitive Request for Qualifications ("RFQ") process, enlisting Energy Service Companies ("ESCOs") to survey opportunity for self-funding Performance Contract
- Project – Developed scope for campus-wide energy efficiency measures to reduce operating expenses, reduce the performance contract term, and increase capital available for residence hall upgrades
- LEED® Certification – Through performance contract program, EcoMetrix is developing full-scope project budget, including mechanical and cosmetic renovations to residence halls with LEED® Certification at completion of project
Solution
EcoMetrix has developed a multi-phase project wherein the humidity and indoor air quality issues in the four residence halls will be quickly solved, with major central plant upgrades planned and budgeted over the next 24 months. EcoMetrix is project managing each aspect of the project, including the performance contract, complete retrofit and renovations of the four dorms, and LEED® Certification of multiple campus facilities.
